You don't have to fly out all the way to Dubai to get your hands on the latest trend in the cocoa world.
The combination of flavours from creamy pistachio, crunchy kunafa* and semi-sweet chocolate has taken the world (and Tiktok) by storm over the last few months.
These chocolate bars are easy to make, and best of all, can be customised to fit new flavour profiles with a few simple tweaks. This recipe adds an optional touch of cream cheese for that extra level of decadence.
This portion serves four people.
Equipment
- Mixing bowls
- Spoons
- Chocolate Bar Mould / Baking Tin
Ingredients
Chocolate:
- 250 gm dark or milk chocolate (or a mix of both)
- 50 gm white chocolate
Pistachio & Cream Cheese filling:
- 150 gm kunafa pastry
- 50 gm pistachio paste
- 50 gm cream cheese (optional, if omitting, use extra pistachio paste)
- pinch of salt
Optional:
- Food colouring to mix with white chocolate
- Butter to toast the kunafe
Steps:
1) Finely cut up the kunafa pastry and toast them over a low heat (optionally, with butter) till golden. Remember to constantly stir to avoid burning!
2) Mix together the kunafa pastry, pistachio paste, cream cheese and salt.
3) Melt your dark/milk chocolate in a microwave (in intervals of 10 seconds, removing to stir) or a double boiler, till smooth.
4) Melt the white chocolate and separate them into different bowls (depending on how many colours you're using).
5) 'Paint' your chocolate mould or tin with the coloured chocolate, before adding in half the dark/milk chocolate.
6) Place in the freezer to allow the chocolate to set before the next step.
6) Fill the mould or tin with the pistachio-kunafa-cream cheese filling. Scrape off the excess.
7) Place it in the freezer till it sets, and you're ready to enjoy your cocoa treat!
